Bluegrass in Posters
A new exhibit, “Bluegrass in Posters” opened during ROMP 2013. The exhibit displays posters from the earliest days of bluegrass music to the present. Also on exhibit are performance clothes and examples of other forms of advertising used to tell people about bluegrass music events and festivals.
In additional to the visual experiences of seeing the posters, museum visitors can also listen to selections from some of the recordings and festivals that the posters advertise. Included in this aspect of the exhibit is one of the original posters from the first multi-day bluegrass music festival, held in Fincastle, Virginia in 1965 and an audio/visual recording of some of the performances.
The exhibit is divided into sections such as Performance, Promotional, Festivals, etc. It includes over 100 posters from the museum and other collections.
The museum presents several new exhibits annually in November and in June. Openings coincide with the annual Members Night at the Museum in November and Opening Night of ROMP – the museum’s signature festival – in June.
