Accessibility & Meeting Special Needs
We operate a handicap-accessible museum. If you are planning a trip and want to know about our handicap access, please phone us in advance at 270-926-7891 so we can be ready to care for your special needs. We provide guided tours upon request for visitors confined to wheelchairs. There is a large elevator to our second floor. Braille signs are in use. Drinking water fountains are accessible for standing or seated persons. There are conveniently-placed sound buttons for the sight or hearing impaired. The self-guided tour is available in large print and in several languages. Not all aspects of our museum and not all of our various exhibits are accessible for every disability, but overall there is so much for every person to enjoy and we will always be happy to share our day with you.
Our Bluegrass in the Schools and Saturday Lessons Programs are, for many, the only instrument training they will ever receive… complete with free instruments on loan, low-cost group music lessons from professional instructors, and opportunities to perform on a major, international stage. Full scholarships are available to students who cannot afford to pay tuition. If you are interested in taking music lessons, call the museum: 270-926-7891 to register. Classes are in two semesters: The fall semester is October through December, and the spring semester is February through June. Registration for each takes place in September and January. Participants in our Saturday Lessons Program perform at ROMP each year.
