Saturday Lessons Program = Kentucky BlueGrass AllStars

The Saturday Lessons concept is simple: we are growing the Biggest Bluegrass Band on Earth! We are doing so not only to have great fun playing great music together, forming family bands and youth bands, playing all the time, all over town, but also to preserve our indigenous cultural heritage as legatees of Bill Monroe's gift of bluegrass music to his home region and state.

All residents of this region are warmly welcome to join us as we continue to build the BIGGEST BLUEGRASS BAND ON EARTH!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

We offer modestly priced group music lessons taught by professional bluegrass music instructors, and free instruments on loan to anyone in the area who would like to take lessons. The performance band formed by this large group of people taking lessons is ambitiously dubbed the Kentucky BlueGrass AllStars.

Students ranging in age from 6 to 80 and up choose from learning how to play the banjo, fiddle, guitar or mandolin. More than music lessons, more than free loaner instruments, the program is a rich package, providing quality instruments and hands-on lessons, photocopied instructional materials (as needed), a Kentucky Bluegrass AllStars T-shirt, and passes to their performance day at ROMP (River of Music Party) if you perform with the Kentucky Bluegrass Allstars at the festival.

Group lessons are every other Saturday beginning in the Fall at the museum, and ending at ROMP. See the form below for details. The total package cost is $30 for the Fall Semester and $60 for the Spring Semester; this price is cut in half for each additional immediate family member. Scholarships are available.

To reserve your seat, come to the museum, register, and be fitted for your instrument. Registration for the Fall Semester is throughout the month of September; for the Spring Semester, it is throughout the month of January and February until the 15th. Call Carly Smith at the museum for any other information: (270) 926-7891 or 1 (888) MY BANJO.
